Since 1986, Jim Jarmusch has been creating short films with a simple plot: two or more characters, both drinking coffee and smoking, in conversation on various topics. They are played by well-known and mostly American actors, lyricists and musicians, who are evidently able to have fun and improvise even when the camera is rolling. The most famous of the films, which stars Iggy Pop and Tom Waits, even won a Palme d'Or at Cannes 1993.

In 2003, the director decided to create six more shorts and add them up into a feature-length film. You can witness the actor Bill Murray speaking to rappers GZA and RZA, or Jack and Meg of the White Stripes debating the inventions of Nikola Tesla.
