Out / Ars Poetica Film 2017

Tuesday, November 21 / 5:45pm
Lumière Film Theatre, auditorium No. 4, Špitálska 4, 81108 Bratislava

A feature-length debut by György Kristóf born in Košice, Slovakia, who graduated from FAMU, The Film and TV Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. It was the first Slovak movie to premiere in the section titled Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2017, competing for a Palme D'Or. It is a story of the fifty-year-old Ágoston, a man who loses his job and consequently leaves Slovakia to work – paradoxically – in Eastern Europe.

On his journey, he experiences absurd situations and meets bizarre personalities spewed out by the everydayness of the transforming Eastern bloc, while tonally, the film is at places charged with odd, surrealist poetry.
