  • Ars poetica is a civic association.
  • Ars poetica, true to its name, focuses on propagation, cultivation and the development of poetry and understands poetry as an eternally young medium, which helps the past to meet the future, where geniuses of the past meet the citizens of presence as well as the yet unborn children of the future.
  • Ars Poetica publishes poetry – both Slovak and foreign – as well as the works on literary criticism and philosophy.
  • Ars Poetica, since 2003, organizes an annual, internationally renowned festival of poetry that holds the same name.

From the history of the Ars Poetica International Poetry Festival

The festival has so far hosted over three hundred poets both of the most prominent as well as rising stars from all across the world, including the likes of T.S. Eliot prize winners, U.S. Poet Laureates, etc. In 2014, Ars Poetica has been privileged to be able to introduce to the Slovak audience a renowned US poet and nominee for the Pulitzer Prize – Ron Padgett, one of the founding fathers of the New York School and contemporary U.S. poetry.

Just like every year, Ars Poetica participants' poetries appear in a nearly 400 page festival anthology featuring their texts in both the original, and Slovak translations, as well as possibly other language versions.

Ars Poetica festival strives to bring poetry into interdisciplinary realm, which shows in the festival efforts to offer not only an Ars Poetica Film section, but also a special multimedia programme segments, such as poetry & video, or poetry & music.

Ars Poetica Publishing House

Ars Poetica association is a publisher of European and world literature in translation, as well as in Slovak. The editorial list, ranging from poetry to essays, includes a number of the most prominent and exciting authors of today and the past century, across Europe and beyond, including Peter Huchel or Sylvia Geist of Germany, Carolyn Forché of the US, Anni Sumari of Finland, and many more. Ars Poetica, constantly looking to promote distinct creativity, unconventional perspectives, and artistic quality, has so far published nearly one hundred titles that are widely praised for their design and innovative merits.
